Corey Martin, founder of Bounce Travels and Innovations and Resilience and David and Augusta Kantra, founders of The Center for CALM® Living (Creating Awareness and Living Mindfully), have teamed up to offer an adventure retreat designed to immerse participants in beauty, connection, and mindfulness.

World-class wineries and breathtaking scenery await you on this adventure retreat. Sonoma County’s ancient redwood groves and dramatic coastal bluffs serve as an amazing landscape for our awe-inspiring hikes. Sonoma’s world-renowned vineyards and exceptional wines are not to be missed as we wine taste with local winemakers in one of California’s most iconic regions.

On this CALM/Bounce Travels retreat, your days will be filled with a soulful blend of scenic hiking, educational insights, and deep, meaningful conversations. You will spend considerable time each day in nature, admiring and reflecting on the unique and impressive panoramas found in Sonoma County, California. You will be accompanied by a community of fellow retreatants led by friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable guides during your retreat.

Each day, your expert facilitators will lead educational, informative, and contemplative sessions inspired by both contemporary and ancient mindfulness teachers, as well as by Parker Palmer’s Center for Courage & Renewal, Brené Brown’s The Daring Way™ programs, and other expert voices in self-examination. Throughout the retreat, we will explore, individually and with one another, the thoughts, stories, habits and conditioning that cloud our vision and keep us living (as James Joyce says) “a short distance from our bodies”. Our time together will help you cultivate tools, techniques, and practices that better serve you in your pursuit of living a more authentic and wholehearted life. These retreat sessions are interactive, fun, and insightful. You’ll work hard, be challenged, and leave feeling empowered to meet life skillfully, kindly and mindfully.

We begin each day with an early morning reflective practice, mindful movement, educational sessions, and a hearty breakfast before setting out on the day’s adventures. We will spend the majority of our days admiring and exploring the impressive panoramas around Sonoma County. Following our time hiking and exploring the natural world and wine tasting, we gather for a communal dinner in the early evening to enjoy some of the delicious food found in that part of the country. Each evening, to further help rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul, you are invited to join in an unstructured social hour with your fellow travelers and guides. No matter your fitness level or resilience experience, you are welcome on this active adventure retreat.

DAILY ITINERARY

Day 1 (September 15th)

We recommend you arrive in San Francisco, CA, at least one day before the start of the retreat. San Francisco offers iconic vistas, historic neighborhoods, and hip shopping experiences. As you arrive here the day before our retreat starts, you can take in local arts and culture, explore the outdoors, indulge in a unique dining scene, or sit by the pool and relax. Plan to arrive at any time this day.  A hotel room will be reserved for you in San Francisco.

Day 2

We will start our day at our hotel in San Francisco with early morning breakfast.  Then its off to our hotel for the week, Cambria Wine Country.  We travel via a comfortable passenger van to arrive at our hotel before meeting for our late morning and afternoon educational sessions that are focused on truly arriving and creating the inner and outer space to settle and open. We end the day by enjoying a lovely dinner together.

Tonight we are staying at the Cambria Hotel in Sonoma. Breakfast included.

Day 3

Morning educational sessions will focus on seeing clearly the habits, distractions and old stories that keep us numb and reactive versus vibrant and response-able. After our morning sessions, we visit Fitch Mountain Park and Francis Ford Coppola Winery.  The Fitch Mountain trail is located on the Southern Pomo people’s ancestral homelands.  You will have an opportunity to explore a dense forest of trees and be afforded a great view of the valley below.  After world of Francis Ford Coppola wines.  On-site, you can explore the beautiful grounds, the vast collection of movie memorabilia from Francis Ford Coppola’s prestigious filmmaking career, and even play a game of bocce ball!

Tonight we are staying at the Cambria Hotel in Sonoma. Breakfast included.

Day 4

Morning sessions will focus on aligning values and action. Coming into that kind of congruence allows you to experience more ease and joy in your life, without having to keep “cleaning up messes.” In order to move into the life we want, we must get clear about what that does and does not entail. After our educational sessions, we hike the well-maintained and relatively easy Kortum Trail where you will get breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean on this nice walk along the Sonoma coastline.  Much of this trail is a double plank wood walkway that goes over wetland and offers sweeping views of the ocean and offshore sea stacks.  There are optional side trips down to the beach or up the trailside rock outcroppings.

Tonight we are staying at the Cambria Hotel in Sonoma. Breakfast included.

Day 5

Morning sessions will help cultivate the practices of self-compassion that are needed to dissolve stuck places and open our ability to deeply connect with ourselves and others. The practices of “letting go” offer us the space to live into new ways of being and doing. Today, our hikes include the Armstrong Redwoods Grove Loop Trail and the Pioneer Nature Trail. Together, they form a 3.5-mile loop that will take you past the park’s oldest redwood, the Colonel Armstrong Tree, estimated to be more than 1,400 years old.  Following our hikes, we will adventure to the Korbel Champagne Winery for tastings as we enjoy this California-based brand of bubbly that has been a staple of American celebrations.

Tonight we are staying at the Cambria Hotel in Sonoma. Breakfast included.

Day 6

Morning sessions will focus on the integration of our week’s work and how to take the practices of Creating Awareness and Living Mindfully (CALM) home. Enlivening our vision for the “Life we want NOW” requires a dedication and commitment to the practices that keep that vision at the forefront. Today’s outdoor time is more relaxed as you can explore the farmer’s market, visit local shops, taste local wines, and enjoy the amenities located around the beautiful Sonoma Plaza. You might also use the free-to-explore block of time to relax at the hotel with a massage, spend time reflecting by the pool or take another hike to a beautiful point overlooking the town of Sonoma.

Tonight we are staying at the Cambria Hotel in Sonoma. Breakfast included.

Day 7

Morning sessions will continue to hone the skills and capacities to create and sustain the changes you desire so you can live the life you most want NOW. You will leave feeling supported, fulfilled, nurtured, and satisfied. We will arrive back at the San Francisco Airport by noon.  Some travelers may choose to fly home later in the day, while others may want to spend more time checking out other parts of the San Francisco Bay Area, such as visiting the Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street, or Alcatraz.

Corey Martin is a Yale-trained family physician driven to change the delivery of healthcare and improve the mental and physical health of our communities.  He is a founder of Innovations in Resilience and the Bounce Back Project, practicing private group physician, Bush Fellow, and consultant to many healthcare and educational organizations in their response to clinician burnout.  Driven to do this work by the loss of two colleagues and friends, Corey strives to create an environment of opportunity in which all of us can do the deep, heartfelt work of changing the way we show up and interact in each other’s lives.  One of the ways he does this is by facilitating resilience retreats across the United States and throughout the world.  He is both a Certified Daring Way Facilitator and Center for Courage and Renewal Facilitator in training and facilitates workshops based on the work of Brené Brown and Parker Palmer.  In his free time, he enjoys working on his farm that he has recently turned into an event center.  He lives in Maple Lake, MN with his three daughters.  He is a recovering perfectionist and an aspiring “good enoughist”.

Augusta and David Kantra, married for almost 40 years, are co-founders & co-owners of the Center for Calm Living in Fairhope, Alabama. Both Augusta & David are psychotherapists, advanced Yoga Teacher Trainers (E-RYT 500) and Certified Professional Mindfulness Teachers (CPMT). The Kantras have conducted yoga and mindfulness trainings at their CALM Living Studio, also in Fairhope, Alabama, for over 10 years.

David Kantra, a graduate of the University of Denver & University of Notre Dame, is a private-practice Clinical Psychologist, Business Consultant, & Life Transition Mentor. In his almost 40 years of clinical experience, David has remained an avid student of life, always striving to understand the nature of being, the process of finding purpose & meaning in our lives, and teaching others simple, applicable ways to go about making their lives more calm, satisfying, and meaningful. In this vein, his most recent efforts have been focused on facilitating a year-long course, “A Year to Change Your Life,” where participants gain insight into what they feel is missing from their lives, decide how they want to write the next chapter of their lives, and learn how to go about doing so.

Augusta, a private-practice psychotherapist, has been leading several on-going self-discovery and mindfulness groups since 2007. Her passion for the journey of awakening can easily be seen in her psychotherapy private practice, her training and mentoring of yoga students, and in her yoga classes. She attributes her successful battle with cancer to her journey to live life to its fullest and to help others do the same. Augusta is the author of the book, Wisdom Seeds: Inspiration to Sow, Grow, and Reap Throughout the Season. Augusta also co-facilitates an online focused writers group, Soul Writers, with poet laureate, Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer.
